COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Software Engineering (Professional) is a 32-unit postgraduate program designed to develop advanced technical expertise, practical engineering skills, and professional capability in software systems development. The program structure consists of 6 units of core courses that provide foundational knowledge in software engineering principles, system design, programming methodologies, and professional practice. Students then complete 4 to 8 units of a research project, where they apply theoretical and technical knowledge to investigate and solve complex software engineering problems, developing strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills. In addition, 8 to 12 units are taken from advanced undergraduate elective courses, allowing students to strengthen their understanding of specialised technical areas and emerging technologies. A further 6 units are selected from discipline electives, enabling deeper study in specific areas of software engineering such as software architecture, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, or data systems. Students may also complete up to 8 units from breadth electives, providing flexibility to broaden their knowledge across related fields. The program also includes academic progression requirements, ensuring students complete at least 12 units at level 6 or higher and no more than 8 units at level 3. Overall, the curriculum combines theory, practical application, and research experience to prepare graduates for professional roles in leading technology companies and complex software development environments.
