COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Social Work (Qualifying) is a structured two-year full-time program consisting of 32 units, divided evenly across four semesters, with each semester comprising 8 units of core courses. In Year 1 Semester 1, students are introduced to the foundational principles of social work practice, including social justice, human rights, professional ethics, and the theoretical frameworks that underpin social work interventions. In Semester 2 of Year 1, students build on this foundation by developing core practice skills, including communication, assessment, and intervention strategies for working with individuals, families, and communities in diverse contexts. In Year 2 Semester 1, the focus shifts to more advanced and applied areas of practice, where students engage with complex social issues such as mental health, child protection, disability, and ageing, while also undertaking supervised field education to integrate theory with real-world practice. In Year 2 Semester 2, students complete advanced coursework and further placement experiences, strengthening their professional competence, reflective practice, and decision-making skills in preparation for independent social work practice. Across all four semesters, the program is designed to progressively develop knowledge, practical skills, and ethical awareness required for professional social work. Upon completion, graduates are eligible for accreditation with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) and are prepared for careers supporting individuals and communities in achieving wellbeing and social justice outcomes.
