COURSE CURRICULUM

The Statistics program is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in mathematical, computational, and analytical methods, along with advanced training in specialised areas of statistical practice. The program requires the completion of 32 units, consisting of 8 units of foundational courses and 24 units from a selected field of study in Statistics. The foundational courses build essential skills in Numerical Methods in Computational Science, Calculus and Linear Algebra II, Mathematical Probability, and Statistical Modelling and Analysis. These subjects develop a strong understanding of mathematical principles, data analysis techniques, and computational tools used to solve real-world problems. Students learn how to design models, interpret data, and apply statistical reasoning to a wide range of contexts. After completing the foundational component, students undertake 24 units in a Statistics field of study, where they engage in more advanced and specialised topics within the discipline. This stage of the program focuses on deepening expertise in statistical theory, applied methods, and data-driven decision-making. The curriculum combines theoretical knowledge with practical applications, enabling students to work with complex datasets and develop meaningful insights. Upon completion, graduates are well prepared for careers as professional statisticians in fields such as healthcare, finance, government, research, and industry, as well as for further academic study in statistics or data science.
