COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Molecular Biology (Research Extensive, 2-year duration) is a highly specialised program designed to develop advanced laboratory, analytical, and independent research skills in molecular life sciences. It requires completion of 32 units structured across core coursework, intensive research training, and elective study options. Students begin with 8 units of core courses that provide essential foundations in bioinformatics, molecular biology laboratory techniques, and advanced studies in proteins and nucleic acids, ensuring strong competence in experimental design and molecular analysis. The central component of the program is 16 units of core research project courses, delivered through advanced research projects and seminars, where students engage in sustained, high-level laboratory or industry-based research under academic supervision. This extensive research training develops the ability to design experiments, analyse complex biological data, and contribute to original scientific inquiry. Students may also complete up to 8 units of coursework electives in areas such as synthetic biology, biotechnology, immunology, infectious diseases, and agricultural or medical biotechnology, allowing them to tailor their expertise. A further 0 to 8 units may be taken as research project electives, including paper critique, area review, project proposals, and additional research projects.
