COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Molecular Biology (2-year duration) is a structured postgraduate program designed to develop advanced knowledge and practical research skills in molecular and cellular sciences. It requires completion of foundational courses, core scientific training, and an extensive research component. Students begin with 8 units of foundational courses covering key areas such as proteins and nucleic acids, genetics, chemical biology, and microbiology and immunology, providing essential theoretical grounding in life sciences. This is followed by 8 units of core courses, which focus on bioinformatics, molecular biology laboratory techniques, and advanced studies in proteins and nucleic acids, ensuring strong practical and analytical capabilities. A significant portion of the program is dedicated to 8 to 16 units of core research project courses, where students undertake a major supervised research project and seminar series, developing independent scientific investigation skills and contributing to contemporary molecular biology research. In addition, students may select up to 8 units of coursework electives in areas such as synthetic biology, biotechnology, immunology, infectious diseases, and agricultural or medical biotechnology, allowing for disciplinary specialisation. A further 0 to 8 units may be taken as research project electives, including paper critique, area review, and project proposal development. Overall, the program prepares graduates for careers in biomedical research, biotechnology, and further academic study.
