COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Mechanical Engineering (Professional) requires completion of 32 units designed to build advanced technical knowledge, research capability, and professional engineering skills. The program includes 14 units of core courses that provide a strong foundation in key mechanical engineering areas such as dynamics and control, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, solid mechanics, materials, design, and manufacturing systems. These core studies develop the analytical and modelling skills required to solve complex engineering problems within real-world constraints. Students also complete 4 units of research project courses, where they undertake an applied or investigative project that strengthens their ability to conduct independent research, interpret technical data, and communicate engineering findings effectively. In addition, 4 units are taken from advanced undergraduate elective courses, allowing students to extend their understanding in specialised technical areas and strengthen their disciplinary depth. A further 10 units are selected from postgraduate elective courses, enabling students to tailor their studies toward specific interests such as advanced design, energy systems, computational mechanics, or manufacturing innovation. This flexible structure ensures both breadth and specialisation within the discipline. Overall, the program integrates theory, practical application, and research to prepare graduates for professional engineering roles in industries such as aerospace, transport, energy, manufacturing, and consulting, both in Australia and internationally.
