COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of International Relations (2-year duration) is a structured 32-unit program designed to develop advanced analytical, theoretical, and research skills in global politics and diplomacy. It begins with 8 units of foundational study covering writing in politics and core concepts in politics, policy, and international relations, ensuring students build strong academic and analytical foundations. Students then complete 8 units of core courses focused on key areas such as globalisation, international political economy and development, international security, the evolution of the international system, and major theories in international relations. The program also includes 6 units of flexible core courses, where students can specialise in areas such as the Asia-Pacific region, foreign policy and diplomacy, strategic studies, international crisis management, environmental politics, indigenous politics, and emerging security challenges. A further 10 units are selected from flexible cores and/or program electives, allowing students to tailor their studies with options including internships, independent study, research methods, communication and social movements, gender and global politics, or law courses such as international human rights law, armed conflict law, and international dispute settlement. Across the degree, students must meet level requirements ensuring both intermediate and advanced coursework. This combination equips graduates for careers in diplomacy, international organisations, policy analysis, NGOs, law-related international work, and global research roles.
