COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Financial Mathematics (MFinMath) is a two-year postgraduate program consisting of 32 units designed to develop strong analytical, computational, and financial modelling skills. The program begins with 8 units of Foundational Courses, including 4 units of compulsory subjects such as Introduction to Programming and Calculus & Linear Algebra II, and 4 units from flexible foundational options like Finance, Applied Mathematical Analysis, or Mathematical Probability. These courses establish essential mathematical, programming, and financial knowledge required for advanced study. Students then complete 6 units of Core Courses covering key areas such as Financial Mathematics, Financial Calculus, and Computational Methods in Financial Mathematics, which build expertise in modelling financial systems and derivative pricing. A further 4 to 8 units are taken from Research Project Courses, allowing students to undertake applied research, projects, or thesis work in financial mathematics or related quantitative fields. The remaining 10 to 14 units are selected from Program Electives, which may include machine learning, portfolio management, econometrics, optimisation, numerical methods, statistical modelling, and stochastic processes. This flexible structure enables students to tailor their studies toward quantitative finance, data science, or actuarial pathways. Graduates are prepared for careers in banking, investment analysis, risk management, financial technology, and research-intensive roles requiring strong mathematical and computational expertise.
