COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Engineering Science (Management) in Civil Engineering is a postgraduate program designed to combine advanced civil engineering expertise with management, leadership, and innovation skills. The program is structured across 32 units, beginning with 8 to 20 units of discipline elective courses that allow students to specialise in key civil engineering areas such as structural analysis, geotechnical engineering, transport systems, water resources, coastal and ocean engineering, environmental hydraulics, fire safety engineering, concrete technology, underground structures, and computational design. These courses develop advanced technical knowledge and analytical skills required for solving complex infrastructure and engineering challenges. Students also complete a 4-unit research project, providing the opportunity to investigate a specialised civil engineering problem using advanced research methods and engineering analysis. In addition, 8 to 16 units are dedicated to management electives, which build leadership and business capabilities relevant to engineering practice. These include subjects in entrepreneurship, innovation, sustainability, international business, marketing, project management, organisational leadership, and strategic decision-making. This combination of technical and managerial learning prepares graduates for senior roles in civil engineering, where they are expected to lead projects, manage teams, and make strategic decisions.
