COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Engineering Science (Management) in Chemical Engineering is a postgraduate program designed to combine advanced chemical engineering knowledge with leadership, management, and strategic decision-making skills. The program consists of 32 units, beginning with a 2-unit compulsory course in Risk in Process Industries, which develops understanding of safety, risk assessment, and hazard management in chemical engineering systems. Students then complete 4 to 10 units of discipline electives, allowing them to deepen technical expertise in areas such as process modelling, systems optimisation, safety design, computational engineering, bioprocess engineering, wastewater treatment, materials, and metallurgical processes. The program also includes 0 to 6 units of breadth electives, offering exposure to broader themes such as energy transitions, net zero strategies, carbon management, and advanced materials. A key component is the 4 to 8 units of research project work, where students undertake independent or supervised research to solve complex engineering problems. In addition, 12 units are dedicated to management electives, covering entrepreneurship, innovation, sustainability, international business, marketing, and leadership. These courses develop skills in strategic thinking, organisational management, and business decision-making. Overall, the program prepares graduates for senior roles in chemical engineering industries by integrating technical depth with strong management capabilities, enabling them to lead projects, drive innovation, and manage complex industrial systems in global engineering environments.
