COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Cyber Security (MCyberSec) is a two-year postgraduate program consisting of 32 units designed to build advanced technical, analytical, and leadership skills in cybersecurity. The program begins with 8 units of core courses that provide a strong foundation in cybersecurity principles, including Fundamentals of Cyber Security, Information Security Essentials, Cyber Security Governance, Policy, Ethics and Law, and Cyber Criminology and Global Security. Students then complete 16 units from one selected specialization pathway: Cyber Defence, Cryptography, or Leadership. The Cyber Defence stream focuses on programming, computer systems, databases, and discrete mathematics, while Cryptography emphasises advanced mathematics including algebra, calculus, probability, and number theory. The Leadership pathway focuses on management, organisational behaviour, strategic management, and business law to prepare students for leadership roles in cybersecurity environments. The program also includes 6 units of Capstone Courses, where students undertake a two-part Cyber Security Capstone Project that integrates theoretical knowledge with practical problem-solving in real-world security challenges. Additionally, students complete 2 units from program electives to further enhance their expertise. Across all pathways, the degree develops strong skills in risk assessment, secure system design, cyber defence strategies, governance, and ethical decision-making. Overall, the program prepares graduates for specialist and leadership roles in cybersecurity across industry, government, and global security sectors.
