COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Communication (MCommun) is a two-year postgraduate program comprising 32 units, designed to develop advanced communication knowledge, research skills, and professional expertise. The program begins with 8 units of Foundational Courses, which introduce key areas such as Communication Theory, Communication for Social Change, Strategic Communication, Academic English, and Professional Writing, helping students build a strong academic and practical base. Students then complete 8 units in a chosen Field of Study, either Communication for Social Change or Strategic Communication, or equivalent elective field courses. These options allow students to specialise in areas such as communication campaigns, digital media, social movements, crisis management, corporate communication, and community informatics. The program also includes 6 to 10 units of Research Courses, which provide training in communication research design, intercultural communication, and a thesis or leadership component, enabling students to develop strong analytical and research capabilities. Additionally, students complete 6 to 10 units of Program Elective Courses, which may include subjects such as social media communication, political communication, advertising, marketing, risk communication, public speaking, industry placement, and digital storytelling. Electives may also be selected from related disciplines such as marketing, sociology, political science, and event management. Overall, the program offers a flexible and interdisciplinary structure that prepares graduates for careers in media, public relations, corporate communication, government, and international development, while also supporting pathways to research and leadership roles.
