COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Biotechnology (MBiotech) is a 2-year program requiring completion of 32 units, designed to provide a strong balance of scientific knowledge, industry-focused skills, and research experience. Students begin with 6 to 8 units of MBiotech Flexible Foundational Courses, selecting subjects such as molecular biology laboratory techniques, genetics, microbiology and immunology, chemical biology, scientific data analysis, and critical paper review to build a strong interdisciplinary base. This is followed by 8 units of compulsory MBiotech Core Courses, which include Biotechnology Commercialisation of Products, Biologics, Quality Management Systems in Biotechnology, and Issues in Biotechnology, ensuring students understand both scientific and industrial dimensions of the field. Students may then choose 0 to 1 Field of Study from areas such as animal, medical, plant, molecular imaging, or synthetic and industrial biotechnology, allowing specialization based on career goals. Additionally, 0 to 10 units can be selected from Program Elective Courses covering topics like biomanufacturing, immunotherapy, entrepreneurship, intellectual property, innovation management, and food biotechnology. A major component of the degree is 8 to 16 units of Research Project Courses, where students undertake independent research, literature reviews, or industry placements to develop advanced practical and analytical skills. Overall, the program prepares graduates for careers in biotechnology industries, research institutions, and innovation-driven organizations globally.
