COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Bioinformatics (MBioinf) is a 2-year program requiring completion of 32 units structured across foundational, core, research, and elective coursework to ensure strong theoretical knowledge and practical research capability. Students begin with 8 units of MBioinf Foundational Courses, selecting from subjects such as genetics, molecular biology, biotechnology issues, chemical biology, programming, mathematics for data science, discrete mathematics, and information systems, which build essential interdisciplinary skills. They then complete 8 units of MBioinf Core Courses, which include key subjects like Bioinformatics 1: Introduction, Bioinformatics 2: Development & Research, Advanced Genome Informatics, and Applications of Computational Statistics, forming the central technical framework of the degree. The program also includes 8 units of MBioinf Research Project Courses, where students undertake supervised research through options such as research projects or a major research thesis and seminar, developing practical problem-solving and analytical expertise. Finally, 8 units of MBioinf Program Elective Courses allow specialization in areas such as genomics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, data mining, database systems, and statistical analysis of genetic data.
