COURSE CURRICULUM

The MBioeng(Prof) program requires completion of 32 units structured across core, research, postgraduate elective, and breadth elective components designed to build advanced expertise in bioengineering. Students undertake 14 units of MBioeng(Prof) Core Courses that provide foundational knowledge in molecular biology, bioprocess engineering, biomaterials, and systems biology. A further 4 to 8 units are allocated to MBioeng(Prof) Research Project Courses, where students engage in supervised, hands-on research addressing real-world biomedical and environmental challenges. In addition, 10 to 14 units are selected from MBioeng(Prof) Postgraduate Elective Courses, allowing specialization in areas such as synthetic biology, tissue engineering, drug development, and bioinformatics. To broaden interdisciplinary skills, students may complete 0 to 4 units from MBioeng(Prof) Breadth Elective Courses, which can include topics outside traditional engineering such as data science, ethics, entrepreneurship, or environmental policy. This flexible structure ensures graduates develop both depth and breadth of knowledge while gaining practical research experience. The program is designed to align with industry and academic demands, producing highly capable bioengineers equipped to innovate in healthcare, biotechnology, and sustainability sectors.
