COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Arts in Translation and Interpreting (MATI) is a comprehensive 32-unit program designed to develop advanced professional, linguistic, and intercultural competencies required for careers in translation and interpreting across a range of industries and settings. The program consists of 24 units of core courses that provide a strong foundation in both the theory and practice of translation and interpreting. Students explore key areas such as theoretical studies in translation and interpreting, professional skills development, interpreting techniques and practice, translation in a globalised marketplace, business translation, community translation and interpreting, consecutive interpreting, digital translation technologies, advanced business interpreting, and research methodologies in translation and interpreting studies. The curriculum also includes specialised training in health and legal translation and interpreting, equipping graduates to work effectively in highly regulated and sensitive professional environments. To further tailor their studies, students complete 8 units of flexible core courses selected from options such as Advanced Translation, Live Interpreting Forum, Media Translation, Conference Interpreting, Industry Placement, or a research Thesis in Translation and Interpreting Studies. These options allow students to strengthen professional expertise, gain industry experience, or undertake independent research. Graduates emerge with advanced communication, analytical, cultural mediation, and language-transfer skills, preparing them for professional careers in translation, interpreting, international business, government, healthcare, legal services, media, and multilingual communication sectors worldwide.
