COURSE CURRICULUM

The two-year Master of Animal Science (MAnimSc) program comprises 32 units and is designed to develop advanced knowledge, practical expertise, and research capabilities in animal science, production systems, and wildlife biology. Students begin with 8 units of foundational courses covering Animal Reproduction, Animal Breeding and Genetics, Animal Anatomy and Physiology, and Animal Nutrition and Technology, providing a strong scientific understanding of animal health, development, and management. The program also includes 6 units of core courses in Advanced Research Methodologies, Leadership in Rural Industries and Communities, and Global Challenges in Agriculture, ensuring graduates develop research, leadership, and problem-solving skills relevant to contemporary agricultural and environmental issues. Students then complete an 8-unit field of study in either Production Animal Science or Wildlife Biology, allowing them to specialise according to their career interests. A research component of 2 to 8 units enables students to undertake independent research projects under academic supervision, strengthening analytical and technical competencies. Additional elective courses provide opportunities to explore specialised areas such as animal and plant biosecurity, advanced agronomy, pasture management, animal production, captive wildlife management, human–wildlife interactions, molecular animal science, animal breeding technology, and stakeholder engagement. Graduates emerge with the scientific knowledge, leadership abilities, and research expertise required for careers in animal production, livestock industries, wildlife conservation, biosecurity, research, policy development, and related sectors worldwide.
