COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Journalism dual degree requires completion of 64 units, comprising 32 units from Science and 32 units from Journalism. The Science component includes 4 units of core courses and either 28 units from a chosen major or 28 units from an extended major. Students must complete at least 10 units at level 3 or higher, ensuring advanced disciplinary depth and strong analytical capability. This structure enables students to specialise in a wide range of scientific fields while developing rigorous research, data analysis, and problem-solving skills. The Bachelor of Journalism component consists of 24 units of core courses and 8 units from flexible core courses. Core journalism studies focus on reporting, media law and ethics, digital storytelling, investigative journalism, and multimedia production, equipping students with professional communication skills across multiple platforms. The flexible core courses allow students to tailor their learning through specialised topics that support individual interests in media practice. By combining science and journalism, the dual degree develops graduates who can interpret complex scientific and technical information and communicate it clearly to the public. This interdisciplinary training prepares students for careers in science communication, environmental journalism, health and medical reporting, data journalism, and media production, as well as roles in research communication, policy, and public engagement in an increasingly information-driven world.
