COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Education (Secondary) dual degree requires completion of 64 units, comprising 32 units from Science and 32 units from Secondary Education. The Science component includes 4 units of core courses, up to 4 units of Level 1 prerequisite courses for majors, 16 units from one major, 8 units from one minor, and up to 4 units of program electives. Students must complete at least 10 units at level 3 or higher, ensuring advanced study and disciplinary depth. The structure provides flexibility to combine a major and minor across a wide range of scientific fields, allowing students to tailor their academic pathway while building strong foundational and specialised knowledge. However, specific rules restrict certain combinations of majors and minors to ensure academic coherence and avoid overlap in closely related disciplines, particularly within areas such as biology, chemistry, earth sciences, mathematics, physics, and psychology. The Education (Secondary) component consists of 16 units of core education courses and 16 units of professional year courses. This component provides training in pedagogy, curriculum design, assessment, and classroom practice, supported by extensive school-based placements. Together, the dual degree integrates scientific expertise with professional teaching skills, preparing graduates for careers as secondary school educators while also equipping them for roles in training, education support, and science-related communication fields.
