COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Midwifery dual degree requires completion of 64 units, structured progressively across four years to integrate theoretical knowledge with extensive clinical practice. In Year 1 Semester 1, students study foundational sciences and professional practice through courses such as Anatomy and Physiology for Nursing and Midwifery, Principles of Midwifery and Woman Centred Care, Clinical Midwifery Practice 1, and Professional Practice 1. Semester 2 builds on this with Midwifery Care across the Pregnancy Continuum, Nursing Across the Lifespan 1, Clinical Nursing Practice 2, and Therapeutics and Safety in Medicine Management. Year 2 introduces more complex care, including Integrated Biomedical Sciences for Nursing, Acute Care Nursing, Clinical Nursing Practice 3, and Indigenous health perspectives, followed by leadership, complex conditions, and Clinical Nursing Practice 4 in Semester 2. Year 3 advances into specialised midwifery and mental health care, including maternal and newborn complexities, critical illness, woman-centred care, and Clinical Midwifery Practice 3 and 4a. Year 4 consolidates learning through advanced clinical placements and professional development courses, including evidence-based practice and extended clinical nursing or midwifery practice units. Across the program, students complete extensive supervised clinical placements, developing competence in both nursing and midwifery across hospital, community, and specialised healthcare settings. This structured progression ensures graduates are highly skilled, reflective, and prepared for diverse professional roles in healthcare.
