COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Music/Bachelor of Education (Secondary) dual degree requires completion of 64 units, comprising 32 units from Music and 32 units from Secondary Education. The Music component includes 30 units of core courses and 2 units of flexible core courses, providing comprehensive training in performance, musicianship, music theory, and creative practice. Students develop high-level technical proficiency in their chosen instrument or voice while also gaining broader musical skills that support ensemble performance, composition, and teaching preparation. The flexible core courses allow limited customisation to support individual interests within the discipline. The Education (Secondary) component consists of 16 units of core education courses, 8 units of professional year core courses, and 8 units of curriculum studies courses specifically linked to music teaching. This structure provides a strong foundation in educational theory, pedagogy, curriculum design, assessment, and classroom management, alongside practical, supervised teaching experience in school settings. The professional year and curriculum studies components ensure students are fully prepared to deliver engaging and effective music education in secondary schools.
