COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Mathematics/Bachelor of Education (Secondary) dual degree requires completion of 64 units, comprising 32 units from Mathematics and 32 units from Secondary Education. The Mathematics component includes 12 units of core courses, 16 units from one chosen mathematics major, and 4 units of program electives. This structure provides a strong foundation in advanced mathematical areas such as calculus, linear algebra, probability, statistics, discrete mathematics, and mathematical modelling, while also allowing students to specialise in a field aligned with their interests. Through the major and electives, students develop advanced analytical reasoning, problem-solving abilities, and quantitative skills that are essential for understanding and applying modern mathematics in real-world contexts. The Bachelor of Education (Secondary) component consists of 16 units of core education courses and 16 units of professional year courses. This component prepares students for classroom teaching through studies in pedagogy, curriculum development, assessment, educational psychology, and classroom management, combined with extensive professional practice in school settings. The program emphasises evidence-based teaching strategies and reflective practice to ensure graduates are confident and effective educators. By combining mathematics with secondary education, the dual degree prepares graduates for rewarding careers as mathematics teachers, while also equipping them with transferable skills for roles in training, curriculum development, and other education-related fields where strong communication and analytical skills are highly valued.
