COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Journalism/Bachelor of Laws (Honours) dual degree requires completion of 80 units, comprising 32 units from Journalism and 48 units from Laws (Honours). The Journalism component includes 24 units of core courses and 8 units of flexible core courses, providing a strong grounding in reporting, media production, storytelling, and digital communication. Students develop practical skills in writing, interviewing, multimedia content creation, data journalism, and publishing across traditional and emerging platforms. The program also emphasises critical reflection on media systems and the role of journalism in society, with opportunities for applied learning through internships and project-based work. The Bachelor of Laws (Honours) component consists of 36 units of core law courses and 12 units of flexible core courses. It provides a rigorous and comprehensive understanding of legal principles, institutions, and theories, while developing advanced skills in legal research, analysis, writing, advocacy, and dispute resolution. The curriculum emphasises ethical practice, critical thinking, and engagement with both domestic and international legal contexts. By combining journalism with law, the dual degree equips graduates with highly developed communication, analytical, and investigative skills. This interdisciplinary training prepares students for diverse career pathways in law, media, journalism, public policy, government, and communications, where the ability to interpret, explain, and influence complex issues is highly valued.
