COURSE CURRICULUM

Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) with the analytical and policy-focused training of the Bachelor of Economics, producing graduates equipped to solve complex problems at the intersection of technology, systems and decision-making. The engineering component comprises 56 units, including 8 units of core foundational courses that build competence in mathematics, programming and professional engineering practice. Students then specialise in one engineering discipline—chemical, civil, electrical, mechanical, mechatronic or software engineering—completing 48 units of structured study that develops advanced technical knowledge and practical problem-solving skills relevant to industry. The economics component consists of 32 units designed to build an understanding of how individuals, firms and governments allocate scarce resources and respond to incentives. Students complete 12 units of core economics courses within the dual program structure, covering essential theories and analytical tools. They then tailor their study through either a combination of a major and flexible core courses or a broader selection of flexible core courses, allowing depth or breadth in areas such as microeconomics, macroeconomics and econometrics. Across both disciplines, students develop strong quantitative, modelling and critical thinking skills, enabling them to evaluate real-world challenges involving markets, infrastructure, policy and technology. Graduates emerge with a versatile skill set suited to careers in engineering, consulting, economic analysis, government advisory roles and innovation-driven industries where technical and economic insight must work together.
