COURSE CURRICULUM

This dual program combines the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) with the Bachelor of Design, requiring completion of 88 units in total and preparing graduates to work at the intersection of technical engineering expertise and creative design thinking. The engineering component consists of 56 units, including 8 units of core courses that provide foundational knowledge in mathematics, programming, and professional engineering practice. Students then complete 48 units in one engineering specialisation—Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronic, or Software Engineering—developing advanced skills in areas such as systems design, infrastructure, energy, robotics, or software development. Certain introductory courses in economics, mathematics, and science are excluded from credit to maintain academic progression standards, and additional restrictions apply for specific combinations such as Software Engineering and Information Environments in design. The design component consists of 32 units, with 28 units of core design courses that build capabilities in visual communication, design thinking, prototyping, and user-centred problem solving. Students may also complete up to 4 units of design electives or general electives to broaden their expertise. Together, the program integrates engineering precision with creative and human-centred design approaches, enabling graduates to develop innovative, practical, and impactful solutions. Graduates are well prepared for careers in product design, technology development, engineering innovation, and interdisciplinary industries where creativity and technical expertise are equally essential.
