COURSE CURRICULUM

This dual degree combines the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) with the Bachelor of Biotechnology, requiring completion of 80 units in total, and is designed to integrate engineering principles with modern life sciences and commercial biotechnology applications. The engineering component consists of 56 units, including 8 units of core engineering courses that establish foundations in mathematics, programming, and professional engineering practice. Students then specialise in Chemical Engineering through 36 units of structured discipline study, developing advanced knowledge in process design, chemical systems, and industrial applications. This is supported by 2 units of chemical engineering extension courses that strengthen applied technical capability, along with 8 to 10 units of advanced or research-focused electives that allow deeper exploration of specialised topics or industry-oriented projects. Students may also complete up to 2 units of breadth electives to broaden their technical understanding. Certain introductory courses in economics, mathematics, and science are excluded for credit to maintain academic rigour and ensure progression standards. The biotechnology component comprises 24 units and is completed through an extended major, providing comprehensive training in biological sciences, laboratory techniques, and biotechnological innovation. This includes understanding how scientific discoveries are translated into practical applications in healthcare, agriculture, and industry. Together, the program develops graduates with strong chemical engineering expertise and biotechnology knowledge, preparing them for careers in pharmaceuticals, bioengineering, research, and industrial biotechnology sectors.
