COURSE CURRICULUM

The combined Bachelor of Economics and Bachelor of Science program requires the completion of 64 units of study, integrating economic theory with scientific knowledge and practical training. The Bachelor of Economics component consists of 32 units, including 16 units of core courses that provide a strong foundation in microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics, and quantitative analysis. These core subjects develop essential skills in modelling, data interpretation, and economic reasoning, helping students understand decision-making processes in markets, governments, and organisations. Students then complete either 16 units from a chosen economics major or 16 units from flexible core courses, allowing specialisation in areas such as financial economics, public policy, behavioural economics, or international economics. The Bachelor of Science component also consists of 32 units and begins with 4 units of core science courses that introduce essential scientific principles and research methods. Students then complete either a 28-unit major or a 28-unit extended major in a chosen scientific discipline such as biology, chemistry, environmental science, mathematics, or physics, enabling deep subject expertise. At least 10 units must be completed at Level 3 or higher to ensure advanced academic engagement. This structure ensures students develop both broad and specialised knowledge across two disciplines, combining analytical economic skills with scientific understanding. Graduates are well prepared for careers in research, environmental analysis, data science, policy development, healthcare industries, and other fields that require strong quantitative, analytical, and scientific capabilities.
