COURSE CURRICULUM

The combined Bachelor of Computer Science and Bachelor of Science program requires students to complete a total of 64 units, designed to integrate advanced computing knowledge with broad scientific expertise. The Bachelor of Computer Science component accounts for 32 units and provides a strong technical foundation through 24 units of core courses covering essential areas such as programming, algorithms, data structures, software engineering, databases, and computer systems. Students also complete 2 to 4 units of introductory computer science electives and 4 to 6 units of advanced electives, allowing them to specialise in areas such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, cybersecurity, data science, or scientific computing. The Bachelor of Science component comprises 32 units and includes 2 units of core science courses, followed by either a 30-unit major or a 30-unit extended major in a chosen scientific discipline such as biology, chemistry, environmental science, mathematics, or bioinformatics. At least 10 units must be completed at Level 3 or higher to ensure advanced-level academic depth. Additional program rules include a specific substitution requirement in the Bioinformatics minor, where CSSE1001 must be replaced by an approved course from the Bachelor of Science list. This structure ensures both technical and scientific rigor, enabling graduates to develop strong analytical, computational, and research skills. Graduates are well prepared for careers in technology, scientific research, data science, bioinformatics, and other interdisciplinary fields where computing and science are closely integrated.
