COURSE CURRICULUM

The combined Bachelor of Communication and Bachelor of Journalism program requires students to complete a total of 64 units of study, designed to build both broad communication expertise and professional journalism skills. The Bachelor of Communication component consists of 32 units and includes 12 units of core courses, 16 units from one chosen communication major, and 4 units of program electives. The core courses introduce students to key areas such as media theory, visual communication, written and spoken communication, multimedia practices, and research methods, providing a strong foundation in how communication operates across different platforms and contexts. Students then specialise through a chosen major in areas such as strategic communication or digital media, allowing them to develop advanced creative and professional skills. The Bachelor of Journalism component also comprises 32 units and includes 24 units of core journalism courses and 8 units of flexible core courses. The core journalism courses focus on news writing, reporting, media ethics, storytelling, investigative journalism, and digital production, ensuring students gain practical skills required for modern journalism. The flexible courses allow students to explore specialised areas of interest within journalism and media practice. This integrated structure prepares graduates for dynamic careers in journalism, media production, digital content creation, public relations, and communication strategy in both national and global industries.
