COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Urban Planning (Honours) requires completion of 64 units, designed to provide advanced professional training, specialised knowledge, and research experience in urban and regional planning. The program consists of 50 units of core courses that establish a strong foundation in advanced planning theory and practice. These core studies cover key areas such as land use planning, urban design, transport systems, infrastructure development, environmental planning, sustainability, real estate and development processes, planning law, governance frameworks, and community consultation. Through these subjects, students develop the ability to analyse and respond to complex planning challenges at both local and regional scales. In addition, students complete 6 units of research courses, which focus on developing advanced research skills, critical analysis, and methodological approaches to planning inquiry. These courses prepare students to undertake independent research and contribute to evidence-based planning practice. The program also includes 4 to 8 units of program elective courses, allowing students to specialise in areas such as climate-responsive planning, housing policy, or advanced urban design. A further 0 to 4 units may be taken as general electives to broaden academic exposure. The honours structure emphasises applied learning through projects and industry engagement, enabling students to work with government, industry, and community partners. Graduates emerge with advanced analytical, research, and professional capabilities, prepared for leadership roles in planning practice or further academic study.
