COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Urban Planning requires completion of 64 units, structured to provide a strong foundation in planning theory, professional practice, and applied design skills. The program consists primarily of 50 units of core courses, which form the backbone of the degree and ensure students develop essential competencies in urban and regional planning. These core studies cover key areas such as land use planning, urban design, infrastructure and transport systems, environmental planning, planning law and governance, resource management, heritage conservation, and policy development. Through these subjects, students build a comprehensive understanding of how cities and regions are planned, developed, and managed in response to social, economic, and environmental needs. In addition to core learning, students complete 10 to 14 units of program elective courses, allowing them to specialise in areas of interest such as sustainable development, advanced design, climate adaptation, or regional planning strategies. A further 0 to 4 units may be chosen from general electives, providing flexibility to broaden knowledge across other disciplines. The program emphasises practical, project-based learning, where students engage in real-world planning scenarios and collaborate with industry stakeholders, government agencies, and communities. By completing this structured combination of core and elective study, graduates are equipped with the analytical, technical, and professional skills required for careers in urban planning across public, private, and community sectors.
