COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Mathematics/Master of Data Science vertical dual degree requires completion of 64 units, comprising 48 units from the Bachelor of Mathematics component and 16 units from the Master of Data Science component. The Mathematics component includes 12 units of core courses, 16 units from one chosen mathematics major, 10 units of Master of Data Science prerequisite courses, 6 units of core articulation courses, 2 units of elective articulation courses, and 2 units of general electives. This structure provides a strong foundation in advanced mathematical concepts such as calculus, linear algebra, probability, statistics, discrete mathematics, and mathematical modelling, while allowing students to specialise through a selected major. The integration of prerequisite and articulation courses ensures a smooth transition into postgraduate study and strengthens applied analytical and computational skills. The Master of Data Science component consists of 10 to 12 units of core courses and 4 to 6 units of elective courses. This stage focuses on advanced data science methods, including statistical learning, machine learning, data engineering, and big data analytics, along with applied learning across disciplines. Electives allow students to tailor their expertise to fields such as business, health, finance, or science. By combining mathematics with data science, the program develops graduates with strong theoretical knowledge and practical skills, preparing them for careers in data-driven industries, research, and advanced analytical roles.
