COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Health Sciences (Public Health specialisation) is a 48-unit program designed to build strong foundations in health systems, disease prevention, and population health, preparing students for careers in public health practice, policy, and research. It is structured around 16 units of core courses that introduce key areas such as biology for health sciences, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, public health principles, health systems and policy, health research and evidence, health measurement, and interdisciplinary approaches to complex health challenges. The program then includes 20 units of compulsory specialisation courses that develop applied expertise in areas such as legal and ethical principles in health, nutrition across the lifespan, health behaviour analysis, health data analysis, major diseases and their control, environmental health, global health and infectious disease, influencing health behaviours, and practical experience through a health practicum. The final 12 units are selected from a broad range of electives allowing students to tailor their studies in areas such as health economics, medical anthropology, psychology, exercise physiology, nutrition, Indigenous studies, digital health, telehealth, public policy, sociology of health, and research projects, while meeting level-based study requirements. Overall, the program integrates science, behaviour, policy, and practice to equip graduates with the skills to improve community health outcomes and address global public health challenges.
