COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) program with a Mechatronic Engineering specialisation is designed to develop strong foundational engineering knowledge alongside advanced interdisciplinary skills in mechanical, electrical, and computer systems. The degree begins with 8 units of BE(Hons) Core Courses, including Professional Engineering, Programming for Engineers, Introduction to Software Engineering, and advanced mathematics subjects such as Calculus & Linear Algebra, Multivariate Calculus, and Differential Equations. These courses build essential competencies in mathematical analysis, programming, systems thinking, and engineering problem-solving. In the first year, students may also undertake a flexible pathway by selecting engineering foundation courses, electives, and preparatory science or mathematics subjects, allowing exploration before choosing a specialisation in second year. The Mechatronic Engineering Plan Options comprise 52 units and focus on designing intelligent, automated, and integrated systems. Students complete a 36-unit Mechatronic Engineering specialisation and then select either a major, minor, or no-major pathway totalling 16 units. Major options include Computer Engineering or Mining Engineering, while minors may include Artificial Intelligence, Computing, or Data Science. Core extension courses cover electronics, signals and systems, control engineering, and dynamics, while advanced electives explore robotics, machine learning, embedded systems, power systems, aerospace technologies, and automation. Students also gain flexibility through breadth and general electives, enabling customisation of their studies. This program prepares graduates for careers in robotics, automation, aerospace, mining, artificial intelligence, and advanced technology industries requiring strong interdisciplinary engineering expertise.
