COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) program with a Civil Engineering specialisation is structured to develop strong foundational engineering knowledge alongside advanced discipline-specific expertise. The degree begins with 8 units of BE(Hons) Core Courses, which include Professional Engineering, Programming for Engineers, Introduction to Software Engineering, and a sequence of advanced mathematics subjects such as Calculus & Linear Algebra I, Multivariate Calculus & Ordinary Differential Equations, and their advanced equivalents. These core courses build essential skills in analytical thinking, computational methods, problem-solving, and professional engineering practice. In the first year, students may also undertake a flexible pathway by selecting engineering foundation courses, engineering electives, and preparatory science or mathematics courses, allowing them to explore different fields before committing to a specialisation in second year. The Civil Engineering Plan Options make up 52 units of study and focus on the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of infrastructure such as buildings, transport systems, dams, and water networks. Students complete a 36-unit Civil Engineering specialisation and then choose either a major, minor, or no-major pathway totalling 16 units. Major options include Environmental, Geotechnical, Structural, Transport, Mining, or Water and Marine Engineering, while minors may include Artificial Intelligence, Computing, Data Science, or Design. Additional advanced and breadth electives cover topics such as structural analysis, soil mechanics, flood management, transport modelling, wind engineering, and sustainable infrastructure. This structure ensures graduates are technically skilled, adaptable, and prepared for careers in civil engineering, infrastructure development, environmental systems, and construction industries.
