COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) program is structured to build strong foundational engineering knowledge while allowing students to specialise in Chemical Engineering through a combination of core, major, minor, and elective study options. The program begins with 8 units of BE(Hons) Core Courses, which include essential subjects such as Professional Engineering, Programming for Engineers, Introduction to Software Engineering, and advanced mathematics courses including calculus, linear algebra, multivariate calculus, and differential equations. These courses develop fundamental skills in engineering thinking, problem-solving, computational methods, and mathematical analysis that are essential across all engineering disciplines. In addition, students may undertake a flexible first-year pathway, choosing from foundation engineering courses and electives to explore different fields before selecting a specialisation in second year. The Chemical Engineering Plan Options comprise the major portion of the degree, focusing on the design and optimisation of industrial processes that convert raw materials into valuable products. Within this specialisation, students complete a 36-unit Chemical Engineering core plus either a major, minor, or no-major pathway totalling 16 units. Major options include areas such as biomedical, bioprocess, environmental, materials, or metallurgical engineering, while minor options combine interdisciplinary study with advanced electives. Students may also select research, breadth, and general electives, including topics like nanomaterials, energy systems, wastewater treatment, food science, and control systems. This flexible structure ensures graduates develop deep technical expertise, strong analytical abilities, and practical experience, preparing them for diverse careers in chemical, environmental, biomedical, energy, and materials engineering industries.
