COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Education (Primary) program requires the completion of 64 units of study, consisting of 60 units of core courses and 4 units of elective courses, designed to prepare students for a professional career in primary school teaching. The core courses provide comprehensive training in curriculum studies, pedagogy, child development, classroom management, literacy and numeracy education, assessment practices, and inclusive education, ensuring graduates are well equipped to teach across a range of primary school subjects and support diverse learner needs. The elective component allows students to broaden or deepen their knowledge in selected areas of interest within education practice. In addition to coursework requirements, the program includes several important conditions. Students must successfully complete the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education Students (LANTITE), or demonstrate recognition of Australian First Nations language proficiency, before graduation. The program does not permit concurrent study unless special approval is granted, and certain semesters, particularly Year 4 Semester 2, must be undertaken as a full-time study load. Students are also required to meet mandatory work-integrated learning requirements, including holding a valid Blue Card for working with children throughout the duration of the program. Recognition of prior learning is subject to a seven-year credit limit. If a student completes all academic requirements but does not meet the LANTITE requirement, they may be awarded a Bachelor of Learning Studies (Primary), which is not eligible for teacher registration in Australia.
