COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Design program requires students to complete a total of 48 units of study, structured to build strong foundational design skills while allowing flexibility to specialise or take a broader study pathway. The program consists of 28 units of core courses that provide essential knowledge in design thinking, visual communication, research methods, and design processes. These core courses help students develop the ability to solve complex problems creatively and communicate ideas effectively through visual and experiential design approaches. In addition to the core component, students complete either a 20-unit Design Major Option or a 20-unit Design No Major Option. The Major Option allows students to specialise in a specific area of design practice, such as user experience design, interaction design, or other focused design disciplines, enabling deeper technical and conceptual expertise. Alternatively, the No Major Option provides a broader learning experience across multiple design areas, supporting interdisciplinary skill development and flexibility in career pathways. The program includes important academic rules to ensure balanced progression: students must complete at least 8 units at Level 3 or higher to ensure advanced-level study, and no more than 24 units can be completed at Level 1 to maintain academic progression standards. This structure ensures graduates develop strong creative, technical, and analytical capabilities, preparing them for careers in UX design, product design, service design, strategic design, and other emerging roles across creative and innovation-driven industries.
