COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Criminology and Criminal Justice (BCCJ) program requires students to complete a total of 48 units of study designed to develop a strong understanding of crime, justice systems, and criminal behaviour. The program is structured to combine core knowledge, flexible learning options, and specialised electives, ensuring both breadth and depth in criminology education. Students complete 28 units of core courses that establish a foundation in key areas such as criminological theory, criminal justice systems, criminal law, research methods, and professional practice. These core subjects provide essential knowledge about how crime is understood, measured, and managed within society, as well as how justice institutions operate. In addition, students complete 4 units from flexible core courses, allowing them to explore selected areas of interest within criminology and criminal justice. The remaining 16 units are chosen from elective courses, enabling further specialisation in topics such as policing, corrections, cybercrime, forensic studies, or youth justice. The program includes important academic rules to ensure quality learning outcomes, including a requirement that no more than 24 units can be completed at Level 1, and at least 8 units must be completed at Level 3 or higher to ensure advanced-level study. This structure ensures graduates develop strong analytical, research, and critical thinking skills, preparing them for careers in law enforcement, criminal justice agencies, policy development, research, and related fields in both public and private sectors.
