COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Computer Science / Master of Data Science vertical dual degree requires students to complete a total of 64 units, combining strong undergraduate computing foundations with advanced postgraduate training in data science. The Bachelor of Computer Science component accounts for 48 units and provides the technical base of the program. Students complete 24 units of core computer science courses covering essential areas such as programming, algorithms, data structures, software engineering, databases, and computer systems. They also complete 16 units of Computer Science plan options, allowing them to tailor their studies toward specific interests within computing. In addition, students undertake 6 units of articulation core courses and 2 units of articulation elective courses that directly prepare them for progression into the Master of Data Science. The Master of Data Science component consists of 16 units and focuses on advanced analytical and computational methods for working with large and complex datasets. Students complete 12 to 14 units of core data science courses, which cover topics such as machine learning, statistical modelling, data analysis, and computational techniques. They also complete 2 to 4 units of elective courses, allowing further specialisation in areas such as business analytics, health data, finance, or scientific applications. This integrated structure develops strong technical, statistical, and problem-solving skills, preparing graduates for careers as data scientists, analysts, machine learning specialists, and professionals working in data-driven industries across business, government, and research sectors.
