COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Teaching (Primary) is a structured professional qualification designed to prepare graduates for teaching in primary school settings from Prep to Year 6. The program consists of 192 units of required courses that combine pedagogical theory, curriculum studies, and extensive classroom-based professional experience. Core subjects focus on developing strong teaching competencies across all key learning areas, including English, mathematics, science, arts, humanities and social sciences (HASS), health and physical education (HPE), and technologies. Students also develop expertise in literacy and numeracy education, with dedicated courses in reading, writing, and mathematics instruction to support early and primary learners. The program emphasises inclusive education through subjects such as diversity and inclusion, as well as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives in teaching and learning, ensuring culturally responsive practice. Professional development is strengthened through courses like pedagogical and curriculum leadership, teacher as researcher, and English language and literacy. A significant component of the degree is supervised professional experience, delivered through multiple placement courses, where students gain hands-on classroom teaching experience in real school environments, including opportunities in diverse settings.
