COURSE CURRICULUM

The Diploma in Social Science at UniSC is a 96-unit program consisting of eight courses designed to provide students with a broad foundation in social science disciplines while allowing flexibility to tailor studies according to individual interests. The curriculum includes three core introductory courses: Academic and Professional Skills: Planning for Success, ICT for Academic and Professional Applications, and Innovation: Addressing Challenges, which develop essential academic skills, digital literacy, communication abilities, and critical thinking for university-level study. The remaining six courses are selected from a wide range of social science disciplines, enabling students to explore areas such as sociology, psychology, social work, counselling, history, human services, and urban planning. Sociology-related options include subjects focused on Australian society, inequality, and social systems, while psychology courses examine human behaviour, cognition, and development. Social work and counselling subjects introduce students to human services practice, ethical frameworks, and community support systems. Urban planning and human geography courses provide insight into how societies and environments interact and develop. This flexible structure allows students to combine different disciplines and even work toward completing a minor. Overall, the Diploma in Social Science provides an interdisciplinary foundation in understanding people, society, and communities, preparing students for further study or entry-level pathways in social services, research, policy, counselling, psychology, and related fields.
