COURSE CURRICULUM

The Diploma in Communication at UniSC is a 96-unit program consisting of eight courses designed to develop foundational communication knowledge and practical skills across media, creative, and professional contexts. The curriculum includes three core introductory courses: Academic and Professional Skills: Planning for Success, ICT for Academic and Professional Applications, and Innovation: Addressing Challenges. These courses build essential skills in academic writing, digital literacy, communication practices, and problem-solving, preparing students for further university study and professional environments. The remaining five courses are selected from a range of communication and creative discipline options, allowing students to tailor their learning to specific interests such as media, journalism, public relations, creative writing, screen and media production, design, photography, and performance. Available study areas include Introduction to Creative Industries, Introduction to Screen and Media Industries, Communication for the Creative Professional, Creative Writing Craft, Digital Journalism, Editing for Professionals, Introduction to Contemporary Global Media and Communication, Fundamentals of Photography, Design Methods, and related creative practice subjects. This flexible structure enables students to build a personalised pathway while gaining both theoretical understanding and applied skills in communication. Overall, the diploma provides a strong foundation in writing, media, design, and digital communication, equipping students for further study or entry-level roles in communication, media, journalism, and creative industries.
