COURSE CURRICULUM

The Biology major within the Bachelor of Science program consists of eight courses that provide comprehensive knowledge of biological systems, human health, microorganisms, genetics, and ecological processes. Core subjects include Immunology, Human Physiology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Pharmaceutical and Food Microbiology, Genetics, and Plant Growth and Reproduction, which together develop understanding of life at molecular, cellular, organism, and environmental levels. Students gain knowledge of immune responses, genetic mechanisms, microbial processes, plant development, and human body functions while also developing practical laboratory and research skills essential for scientific investigation. The inclusion of specialised microbiology and molecular biology courses strengthens technical expertise relevant to healthcare, biotechnology, food science, and biomedical research. Students also choose one ecology-focused course, either Plant Diversity and Ecology or Terrestrial Vertebrate Diversity and Ecology, allowing exploration of biodiversity and environmental interactions. Across the major, prerequisite sequencing ensures progressive learning from foundational science into advanced biological applications. The curriculum combines theoretical understanding with hands-on scientific training to support analytical thinking, problem-solving, and research capability. Overall, the Biology major prepares students for careers and further study in areas such as biomedical science, environmental science, microbiology, biotechnology, healthcare, conservation, and scientific research, while contributing broad scientific knowledge within the Bachelor of Science degree.
