COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Primary Education is a professional teaching degree designed to prepare students for careers as primary school educators by developing strong curriculum knowledge, pedagogical skills, and practical classroom experience. The program is structured across introductory, developing, and graduate stages, supported by a specialisation in either English or STEM. The introductory stage (72 units) builds foundational understanding of human development, learning theories, numeracy, literacy, and the role of technology in education, alongside early professional experience placements that introduce students to teaching environments. The developing stage (108 units) focuses on curriculum and teaching methods across key learning areas such as English, mathematics, science, health and physical education, arts, and technology, while also addressing individual learner needs and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education. The graduate stage (180 units) provides advanced training in assessment, curriculum leadership, inclusion and diversity, literacy and numeracy teaching, HASS, languages, research in education, and professional sustainability, supported by extensive professional experience placements that develop classroom readiness. Students also complete a 24-unit specialisation in either English or STEM to deepen expertise in a chosen teaching area. Overall, the program equips graduates with the knowledge, practical skills, and professional competence required to become effective, reflective, and adaptable primary school teachers in diverse educational settings.
