COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (Honours) is a structured professional degree that prepares students for careers as occupational therapists by combining health sciences, psychology, and extensive clinical practice. The program is organised into introductory, developing, and graduate stages, along with an honours component focused on advanced competency development. The introductory stage (96 units) builds foundational knowledge in bioscience, human physiology, anatomy, psychology, and core occupational therapy concepts such as human occupation, participation, and occupational therapy theory. The developing stage (108 units) strengthens applied knowledge through subjects including health research and evidence, Indigenous wellbeing practice, mental health occupational therapy, therapeutic skills, neurological causes of occupational dysfunction, human development, and functional anatomy, alongside foundational placement competencies in allied health settings. The graduate stage (84 units) focuses on advanced professional practice, including consolidation of occupational therapy competencies, and specialised study in enabling occupation across the child, adolescent, adult, and older person populations, supported by further clinical placement experience. A significant component of the program is supervised fieldwork integrated throughout the degree, ensuring students gain practical experience in real healthcare and community environments. The honours plan (96 units) further develops advanced clinical reasoning, research capability, and professional competence. Overall, the program prepares graduates to support individuals in improving independence and participation in daily life across diverse health and social contexts.
