COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Nursing Science program is accredited by the Australian Nursing & Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC) and is designed to prepare students for professional nursing practice through a structured combination of theoretical study, clinical preparation, and extensive hands-on experience. The program is delivered progressively across introductory, developing, and graduate stages. The introductory stage (114 units) builds foundational knowledge in anatomy and physiology, bioscience, health communication, and core nursing concepts, including contexts of practice across child, youth, family, and older populations. Students also begin clinical preparation through practice foundations, research basics, and Nursing Practice 1. The developing stage (78 units) deepens clinical competence and professional understanding through subjects such as health law and ethics, drug therapy, health alteration, end-of-life care, and advanced preparation for practice, supported by Nursing Practice 2 and 3 placements. The graduate stage (84 units) focuses on complex and specialised care, including mental health, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and cultural safety, leadership in clinical practice, and a major nursing internship, alongside Nursing Practice 4. Students also complete a 24-unit internship and additional preparation courses to transition into professional practice. An elective allows further specialisation in areas such as neonatal health or perinatal mental health. Overall, the program develops competent, culturally aware, and evidence-based nursing professionals ready for diverse healthcare environments.
