COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Laws / Environmental Management is an interdisciplinary double degree combining legal education with environmental science, sustainability, and resource management. The introductory stage (120 units) builds foundational knowledge in law, environmental systems, and scientific methods through subjects such as introduction to law, torts, criminal law and procedure, law and society, biodiversity and ecology, environmental management, earth surface processes, sustainability foundations, and science research methods. The developing stage (156 units) expands into more specialised legal and environmental study, including property law, constitutional law, contract law, international law, civil procedure, environmental planning and law, climate change mitigation and adaptation, environmental impact assessment, geographic information systems, environmental health risk management, and sustainability development studies. The graduate stage (120 units) advances professional expertise through environmental economics, integrated environmental management, globalisation and indigenous peoples, and core legal subjects such as equity and trusts, corporations law, administrative law, evidence, negotiation and dispute resolution, professional conduct, and community legal practice. Students also complete a 12-unit applied learning component via field studies, research projects, or workplace learning. In addition, they undertake a 72-unit Law Extended Minor in advocacy and litigation, civil obligations, or specialised legal studies. Overall, the program equips graduates with strong legal skills and environmental expertise, preparing them for careers in environmental law, policy development, conservation, planning, sustainability consulting, and government or international environmental governance roles.
