COURSE CURRICULUM

This Bachelor of Laws / Commerce (Accounting) program integrates professional legal education with specialised accounting and business studies across introductory, developing, and graduate levels. The introductory stage (120 units) builds foundational knowledge in law, business, and accounting, covering subjects such as introduction to law, legal interpretation and persuasion, torts, criminal law and procedure, law and society, accounting principles, economics for business, management, business research, and information systems in organisations. The developing stage (108 units) strengthens core legal and financial understanding through property law A and B, constitutional law, contract law, international law, civil procedure, and accounting-focused subjects including financial accounting, business finance, and company accounting. At the graduate level (168 units), students undertake advanced legal and accounting coursework such as equity and trusts, corporations law, administrative law, evidence, management accounting, taxation law and practice, auditing, and contemporary accounting issues, alongside professional subjects in negotiation, dispute resolution, professional conduct, business governance, and community legal practice. A legal research project and employability-focused course further enhance applied skills. Students also complete a 12-unit elective at 200/300 level from business or commerce offerings, allowing flexibility and specialization. Additionally, they select a 72-unit Law Extended Minor in advocacy and litigation, civil obligations, or specialised legal studies. Overall, the program develops strong expertise in both legal reasoning and accounting practice, preparing graduates for careers in law firms, accounting firms, corporate advisory roles, and broader business environments.
