COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Human Services curriculum is designed to prepare students for professional roles in social welfare, community support, and human services practice. The program begins with introductory courses that focus on group processes, therapeutic communication, human behaviour, sociology, Indigenous Australian perspectives, and foundational theories of social work and human services. These subjects provide students with a strong understanding of people, society, and the key principles of helping professions. In the developing stage, students build practical and theoretical knowledge through courses in social justice, welfare systems, organisational practice, mental and physical health, working with First Nations peoples and multicultural communities, child and family services, ethics and law, and disability studies. A significant feature of the program is the inclusion of professional placement, where students gain real-world experience in human services settings. At the graduate level, students focus on advanced practice areas such as community development, social action, and context-responsive social work, supported by a second placement that further develops professional competence. Elective courses allow students to broaden their learning in related areas of interest. Overall, the degree integrates theory, ethics, and practical experience to prepare graduates for careers in community services, social work, advocacy, youth and family support, disability services, and other human service roles aimed at promoting social wellbeing and justice.
